Background:
1988 325iX 2dr LHD, imported to canada from europe a few years ago, ECU # 0 261 200 073 (apparently an early 24/28pin motronic 1.1). No OBC, I have the analog clock.
I parked the car a long time ago to do a clutch job and ended up having it not start after i finished. Due to bad timing I ended up parking the car for almost 1.5 years.
The car ran before I parked, but it DID have some trouble with hot starts. I had to leave it in a parking lot for a few hours because I came back from the store and it wouln't catch.
I've been trying to troubleshoot my no start. First thing I did was check for spark - I got none. I ended up ruining the coil when I tried to take off the - connector so I ordered a new coil, new plug wires, new distrubitor and new rotor. I put the new coil in and I get +12v at terminal 15, but I still don't get spark directly off the coil.
I started going backwards and checked the main relay. I have 12v at pin 30, but no voltage at pin 86, with the ignition on or off. After discovering this I don't really know where to go with it. I can't find any useful wiring diagrams that show where pin 86 is supposed to get its supply from. I've checked the e30 bentley and google but have come up with nothing.
I've also tried doing ecu tests, but it isn't very clear since all the tests are for 35 pins. The first voltage test is supposed to be for pins 18 and 35, but I don't have a pin 18 and pin 35 only gets .3v. The only pin on my ecu that gets 12v is pin 1, and only when the ignition is on.
