Hey guys i had my 325i moted today and she passed with new issues really.
1 headlight bulb.
Play in the steering rack.

Now whats the best way to replace the rack,do i get a reconed unit or new from bmw.
Do i fit the e36 rack, does it make a big diff and is it a direct swap..
Also my wipers are not working on the slow mode only on fast dont know why.

just get a good second hand rack from a trader/fragger on here or if anywhere near the M25 J2 have a look here www.fastbimmer.co.uk
Wipers could be down to the stalk, wiring issue (check the motor connector) and also the wiper motor.
The rack swap from an E36 is a personal taste and dependent on your use of the car. But worth bearing in mnd that a quicker rack on a tail happy car makes it harder to control and keep on the black stuff.
Unless you are one of the hundreds on here that are driving gods only surpassed by Senna, Mansel or Schumacher (sp?) :D
Never argue with an idiot. They bring you down to their level then, beat you with experience.

What a total load of rubbish, the standard E36 rack offers better steering control over the aged old E30 setup, it doesn't make it harder to control at all. The E46 rack makes an even bigger change and if I drive my girlfriends E30 after mine it feels positivly dangerous in comparisson (her car is in perfect running order) I do not proclaim to be any of the driving gods you mention, just average joe. I'm taking that comment as you having a bad experience??

To the OP, the E36 rack is a worthwhile mod but if you do want to just bolt on and go get a decent second hand rack of here, loads available due to the amount of people upgrading to E36/E46 racks.

I have a decent standard E30 PAS setup that I recently removed from my 325i - it needs a couple of jubiliee clips where the hoses connect to the reservoir but thats it.

Located nr Cannock Staffs - if you're local PM me and we'll sort something out.

Wipers will need the motor sorting - there is a link in the wiki which tells you how to do it.

Pm sent.

I suppose a normal rack would suit me just fine,as going from the replys it looks like it might take a few modes for the e36 rack to fit.
