I have a 316 ,carb auto, 60000, and it seems as if the box is very close to saying goodbye! :(
The body is good and the inside is superb.
How big a job is swapping an auto box? Ive done loads of manual box cars over the years (even built a kit car).
This is my first bimmer but wont be my last!
Any links,or help please? :D

Main problem is that they are bl**dy heavy! You'll definitely need help. The other crucial thing is to lock the torque converter in place in the new gearbox while it is standing upright on it's tail. Failure to do this will mean a knackered pump and no drive.
An auto must really soak up the power on a small cc four pot. It would be a good time to convert to manual. There's quite a lot of tips flying around the zone at the moment. Having said that, I opted to stay auto when I had the chance!
