Hi,

I have recently bought an F Reg 325i Touring. It is standard condition and has done 126k miles. It has a FSH.

The question i have is that it has what i can only describe as a lumpy idle at about 800revs which means it is difficult to drive in traffic. It is not terrible and i may be being a bit picky but it does make the car a bit more difficult to drive. The tappets are a bit noisy and i was wondering if adjusting them may help? It is due for a service in about 2000 miles and i will ask the garage to adjust them, unless i feel brave and have a go myself.

If it isn't the tappets then does anyone know what it may be?

Cheers

Lumpy idle is normally the symptom of an air leak, take a quick look listen with the engine running, usually find air leaks around the intake system, especially the boot between the airflow meter and the throttle body, it will help to spray some carb cleaner around too, if the revs change, you have found the leak as the car takes the carb cleaner into the system.

.......dont know why it shrunk? :? :?

anyway, arond this area, where ANY pipe connects, check for tears in pipes, loose clamps, not connected or comprimised in any way and do th e carb cleaner method! it works!
