hi i have a h reg e30 318is, on the drive to work today noticed as i was about to overtake that instead of reaching in to the top revs it accelerated normally but stopped at 5k and wouldnt go higher though you could feel it wanted to. there was no misfiring or stutter as it stopped.
the only thing i can think of is blocked inlet or maybe fueling issues
Any input would be appreciated

One of those issues which could be cause by a half dozen things. I'll give you one of them.
Spend 5 minutes, go and undo each grounding (earth) point, file the terminal and contact on the chassis to bare metal, reattach. Contacts on alternator too.
Poor grounds can obviously lead to weakened spark, hence the wea top end.
Again, it very well could be a number of other things, but considering the ease of this one, worth to start here.
