Hi everyone

I'm in the process of stripping my 316i M40 engine but I'm at the stage where I need to lock the Camshaft and Crankshaft to remove the timing belt.

I was able to lock the crank with a drill bit through the hole on the flywheel but I was just wondering if anyone knew of a way I could avoid spending the guts of £50 on the locking tool and lock the camshaft by other means? Perhaps a more common tool or something which could be made for the job?

Thanks a lot

i made 2 of these you can have the spare for £15 inc the postage, or you have to lock the cam with the square section (nearest the cam sprocket) at 90 degrees to the head, use a set square or similar and 2 pairs of mole grips.

or make your own

Thanks for your quick reply, I'm very interested in your offer, I'm in Northern Ireland though, I think postage would be of a similar mainland price. Do you have a paypal account? Seems to be the easiest way of payment.

Regards
