Hi guys,
my M3 had got a nasty bit of rust around the rear number plate lights. I might be able to patch it, but failing that I might cut a chunk out of a breaker and use that instead.
Does anyone know if the rear panel is the same on a m3 as the one on a pre facelift e30? I know it's likely to be similar, but I don't know of another locally for me to go and check. It's only the very centre section I'm interested in, e.g. 3 inches either side of the no plate lights, down to about halfway through the number plate.
failing that I could buy a complete rear panel, but it's not really bad enough for that!.
TIA
John
M3 rear panel...same as pre facelift?

just checked the etk and the m3 complete back panel is listed as a different part number to the pre facelift coupe but i think the number plate section is the same.

I asked this question a while back, allthough I know the rear panel is different between M3 and all other E30's, I wanted to know what the difference was, as I only needed the bottom valence part of the M3 panel, but I ended up buying the whole new panel from BMW for Ԛ£140, I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the panel, I shall enquire to see where it has gone.

that sounds great simon,
someone on here has an early car they are breaking, and have kindly offered to chop a chunk out of it.
But a bit of a new panel is always preferable.
Do they all rust there or is it just mine. (although mine seems to have rusted everywhere!)
Cheers

Very normal John, have you removed the number plate too? They tend to rust around the plate holes too, also above the rear light clusters is another fave.jpboost wrote:that sounds great simon,

Not removed the plate yet.... but I'd suspect it'll be rusty.
my car sat in someones front garden for about 3years. (on flat tyres) so it seems that a lot of bits have a fair amount of corrosion.
I've fixed/replaced most of it now, just gradually working throught the rest. Next on the list are the heavily corroded fuel pipes.
As much as I like the smell of petrol, it's not nice when you're welding the sills!!

I hear you Bradz,
Make sure it's done well though, I had a 318is a while back and there was loads of rot around the rear panel. Looked like it had been replaced at somepoint. The car was generally rot free, but all around this repair was very very soggy.
Hopefully I can get away with only replacing a small section, I'm keen to get it as original as possible.
