eletrical fault help

so my car broke down today on the high st and had to get towed by aa he said its a eletrical fault asthe spark plugs wernt firing... so i am just asking for some help of comon eletrical problems that people have encounted before? any help will be apreciated thanks riaz

Most common for this is dirty or faulty pick up sensor. But first check the coil is in good order and has power going to it, The cap and rotor are not cracked or worn to nothing(unlikley as it would most likly misfire instead). Last thing is the ecu's suffer for dry joints inside.

Either the front crank pully or if its an high oldie comp m20 2x on the fly wheel going into the gear box where the starter motor is.

check if you have fuel coming up to the injectors...if you have no spark and no fuel it will 99% be the Crank Position Sensor.. if you have fuel and no spark it wont be the CPS

if it just died i would look at the DME relay, located in the small box next to the air flow meter, there are three spaces for relays and probably only two relays. one is for fuel pump, one for a catalytic heater, the last os for the DME relay which supplied power to the ECU. without this there can be no spark.

also if you have the facelift m20 engine 320 or 325 check behind the front pulleys for chaffing of the CPS wire..very common
