hi people
I went out in the cab (2.7 eta) today for run to the mini meet in bury. Ive only owned the car a few weeks so still getting familiar with it. On the way i gave it a little bit now and again.
Everytime i went past four grand and backed off a huge plume of blue smoke came out the back (Reedy can vouch for this im afraid to say). This only happend when i was giving it some past four, pottering it around under 3 i didnt seem to notice any. Also seems a little spluttery when cold, and seems to be using a little oil.
Ive checked the oil filler cap and dont think its the head gasket (no white scum in it). Has anyone got any ideas what else to check or what it could be before i take it to the stealers?
blue smoke please help

Could be worn cylinder rings. Check your spark plugs for oil deposits.

Check if it smokes on first start up in the morning, or let the car drive the engine and check, if it does, then it's valve stem oil seals

I would say valve guide oil seals too.
Glad to see another 2.7 in East Anglia

valve stem seals are a head off and stripped job, so gotta factor a headgastket set and bolts into it (Ԛ£80 from GSF for an M20), timing belt and water pump too unless very recently changed

It's possible to change the seals without taking the head off.
Involves either screwing an airline adaptor into a sparkplug hole and using a compressed air supplly to keep the valves in place while you take the springs etc. off, or a more DIY approach of feeding string into sparkplug holes at BDC and then winding the pistons up with the crank untill the string is compressed against the valves.
