Hiya..

Took the e30 to a breakers to fetch some parts for another car.. was a ridiculously pot holed road with deep puddles, and i caught the bottom of the car... now i'm losing oil

its absolutely chucking it down so cant have a look, but are sumps easy to crack? its not a huge leak probably lost no more than half a litre in 24 hours but obviously i want it fixed asap. how much would i be looking at to replace it if its cracked?

you can get them from eurocar parts. 318i is about Ԛ£60 + p+p i think. mine was crack when mum drove it up a curb! got it welded but another crack appeared. lucky for me though there was a guy on the forum with a second hand one. while the sump is off though, just make sure that the bolts on the upper/inner sump are tight as they can come loose.
obviously loose internal engine bolts are too good!

they're pretty easy to crack. mine got about 6x 5-8" long cracks after a ride home on a AA tail-lift truck. it smacked the sump against the tail-lift on every bump!!!

it's held together with a petrol tank repair patch at the moment while my compensation claim is going through! the estimate for the entire repair (inc bent front panel and smashel lip spoiler etc) from BMW is Ԛ£998.36!!!! we'll have to see what happen there!

a new M20 sump is Ԛ£150 from BMW... not too bad considering...

still not paying that if i get the payout though!

best bet is to just buy a new sump for what it's worth
