Hi guys, my speedometer has been tempremental ever since I purchased my 318i, however, the speedo works if the engine is very cold, it works for a couple of minutes then slowly dies/jerks as the engine warms up.

Could this be the cable? I have already replaced about a meter of the cable from the diff and cleaned the connection to the diff but the problem remains the same.

Any help would be great as this is bugging me!

Thanks 8)

Have u replaced the sensor itself? Could b breaking down when hot. Also why did you replace the wire, was it corroded?

The 'other' main cause of speedo problems is dry solder joints on the speedo circuit board. Easily cured, but the cluster has to come out and be dismantled, of course.
Can you find a spare cluster to try?

Do you mean the sensor on the diff, as in the plug? I have not tried this. I replaced the wire because it seemed a common problem after searching the forum, it worked for alot of people... but not me :(.

Brian if it was the circuit board in the cluster itself would this cause the hot/cold problem or is it more likely to be the sensor in this case?
