bought some 318iS front brake calipers a while ago, and today finally got round to buying new 325i discs and bolting the lot on. just wondering if the brake calipers are actually different, because when i had them side by side during the swap they looked the same! i think etk gave different part numbers but i can't really remember!

just curious. if they're different then i'm going to bin my 316 calipers but if they're all the same then i'll keep em as spares or sell em!

There were 2 different types fitted to the E30, ATE and Girling, theyre interchangeable as in fitting bolt holes/pads and discs, but parts are different if rebuilding them.
Vented calipers and solid calipers are different though.

aha that's what i wanted to know, cheers. didn't look too carefully, was just expecting the vented disc calipers to be visibly larger that's all. obviously not!

The vented calipers will be "wider" to accomodate the thicker vented disc - about 20mm (poss 25) compared to 12.5 of the normal solid disc. They will otherwise look similar enough put side by side.
