Hi all, yet another problem!! LOL!!
My temp gauge doesnt seem to be working, i tried a wire in the plug and the needle rose, so im guessing it aint the gauge itself. I then replaced the temp sender, and yet again no avail(mine is the 2pin black plug as found on the 525i).
Whilst reading the Haynes manual it states that if the two ni-cad batteries are fooked, that you may get inaccurate temp/tacho readings as well as the inability to remove the service indicator lights. It also says that they cud be drained due to the fact that the battery may have been disconnected or if the car has lay in storage(as mine had) for a length of time. Average battery pack life of around 6yrs.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem or has replaced the battery pck??
SI power pack??

yup, that is correct.
However another reason might be poor connections (due to effect of oxydation for many years). I sanded all my connectors with fine sandpaper, and sprayed with electrical contact cleaner, and it's much better... still my tacho reads inaccrately, jumps all over the place, speedo dies sometimes, mpg gauge works half of the time.
I'll replace bateries, my problem is that my SI board has some unusuall bateries.
these are
CR14250SE, a 3V Lithium - Mno2-LI
nodoby stocks them locally, i'd have to import them from somewhere...

if you have a early car then you have aa ni cad rechargeable if you have a later car then you have lithium that dont need a re charge
i obtained mine from rs components (lithium) about a fiver each ...make sure you get the tagged ones its much easier to soldier them in

Lithiums available from CPC, but very rare to find dud ones.Mops wrote:yup, that is correct.

If the inspection lights are on all the time, then reset them with a piece of wire to the appropriate pin in the diagnostic connector. Do a search to see how.
If they can't be reset, or come on again shortly after, then you do have a SI board problem, which may be the cause of your temp gauge problems. Easy to do, so eliminate this possible problem first.
