the engine has flipped. It idles now like i was sitting there pumping the pedal between about 500 and 1100, just up and down regularly. I'm sure its no coincidence and is therefore something to do with the alarm being fitted, can anyone with some knowledge shed some light on what they might have done. i will take it back to them tomorrow and they will sort it out straight away, im just interested to know what they could have done?

thanks

They would have disconected the battery so your ECU will need to settle down, only takes a day or so depending how much you use the car.

Possibly disconnected the battery for a while, resetting the ECU. Have a look at this thread: http://www.e30zone.co.uk/modules.php?na ... =ecu+reset
Looks like Andy beat me to it!

The ECU will also 'relearn' the settings if you just let the car idle for about 10 minutes. Make yourself a cup of tea and wait for the idle speed to become stable. Then take it out for a spin..... 8)
