Hi,

I have recently acquired a 325. Having had a few in the past, this one is no where near what it should be like.

Everytime you put your foot down, it just does not move as quick as it should, sounds a bit too revy like a 316 or 318 and definately no kick to it.

Its as if the revs climb as normal but the speed is not in comparison?

I have done a full service, do you think i could be a serious engine problem such as compression etc..?

Any help would be great before i strip it?

maybe is it a 316 or 318!

what year is the car? has the last owner played with anything or does it look unmolested under the bonnet?

The 320 is pretty nippy and goes, but nothing like a 325 !

The 325 should roar at you and put a proper smile on your face :D

It may be a tappet down? Is it proper clicky or just a bit tappy like most of them! Get the rocker cover off and have a look if something's snapped
Previously owned loads of old E30s, E34s, a few E36s, E32s, E39s and an E38.

Currently in a diesel Audi - miss me old E30's....

Sounds like the clutch is slipping!

Another possibilty is that it has a diff with the wrong ratio for the gearbox, something like a 3.15 or 3.25.

Not sounding like a 4 pot because it's only running on three cylinders, is it?
Check the plug under the inlet manifold that connects the injector loom to the main engine loom for rotted wires if it is.

It does have a 4.10 diff. By the way it is a BMW z1.

Maybe it's just the way they drive. The ones on YouTube seem quick.

I will get a local e30 specialist to have look

A Z1? I thought you said it was a 325i?!

A Z1 is slower than a 325i despite them having the same engine, this is because the Z1 is heavier than a 325i.

a M10 1.8 Z1 325 perhaps with a 5.90 diff and a slippy clutch pedal.

no its a bmw z1, which has the same engine as a e30 325.

the diff could be the reason, being a 4.10

OK back on topic and joking aside, yes a 4.1 will make it revvy, a 3.91 is as high as factory E30's go with 2.5, but you say it has no kick, in fact it should have a lot of kick with that diff, just no top end speed.

so to get answers to your questions let us know what is really the case? no acceleration or no top speed?
