OH YEAH!!!!!!!! that's where my gears are!!!

i've just rebuilt the shift mechanism, on my tourer with the help of E30Adams guide. cheers mate :)

i did have 3" slop side-to-side and 2" slop front-to-back... now it's about 1/2" if that.

the only thing i wonder is that there may be need to change the bush that steadies the shift extension (the one behind the stick, onto the floor) as this seems to be the cause of almost all of the remaining play.

has anyone changed this? should it be stiff or soggy?

Unfortunately you can't replace just the bush as its molded into the metal holder/bracket thing.

The good news is its only about 12-15 quid from the dealers and once you have access to get to it it is very easy to fit.

my bush fell out

i welded a steel nut in place with inside hole a good fit for the aluminium gear brace thing

no vibration problems and feels rock solid

but yeah i didn't realise they were so cheap from a dealer

cool. cheers guys.
i may make up a solid plastic bush type affair to clip over the outside and hod it steady (with some jubilee clips maybe). otherwise it's probably another gearbox dropping session! i ache too much to want to do that again for a while!

You shouldn't have to drop the box to change this bush, it's quite easilly accessible and only held on with one 13mm nut.

I'll look at updating the guide to include this part.

i thought the heatshild would hamper things... i'll have another look.

that heatshield was not my best friend yesterday... it's got loads of clumps of my skin and hair all around its edges!

is a new one fairly stiff?

handy! ta!

it looks about the same as mine. i doubt it's really dead, just could be improved by stiffening.
