I bought an E30 a while back, and found the headlamps were held by black silicon rubber to the plastic grill! Came with a recent garage invoice which included "adjust headlamps".
Do you have the dash adjustable headlamp levellers? I find they pop out fairly easily and leave the headlamp swinging, and push back in just as easily.
If it is just a brocken clip, then while you're at it, with the headlamp out, get all the adjusters working, and coat them with copper grease. If any won't budge, or the threaded part is cracked, then new ones can be bought individually.
Take the rear plastic caps off the lamp holders at the back as well, and coat everywhere that alloy touches plastic with silicon grease. It'll pay dividends when a lamp fails.
