This has been an intermittent problem for a while now. It does not seem to matter if the car has been running a while or it is cold.

Basically whist driving the revs completely drop off and the engine sputters. Usually if the car is switched off for five or ten minuets it returns to normal. Today the car really didn't want to start again and sounded terrible when turning over. After about 50 minuets hey presto back to normal, revs restored and running fine.

I have recently fitted a new dizzy cap and rotor arm - ran fine after fitting. Could it be the fuel relay?

Can't say I can either when it is running without revs or back when it is back to normal.

A new fuel pump and filter have been fitted.

Could be an overheating fuel pump relay.
Could be an out of spec engine speed sensor.
Could be a problem in the DME.

I know it is difficult to diagnose. Forgive my ignorance, where is the fuel pump relay?
