Now that my car has been painted, I'm going to be re-assembling soon.

Does anyone have tips on how to re-attach the bottom window trim strips (the long metal strips with rubber squeegees clipped to them)? The parts are ridiculously expensive, so I don't want to screw it up. Do I attach the clips to the body first? Clip the squeegees to the trim first?

Any advice appreciated! TIA.

Hello mate,

Yes, you pretty much have the correct idea :thumb:

Fit the clips on the door first, but make sure you get them the correct way round. I seem to remember that one side is little larger than the other, and the larger side takes the rubber squeegee.

Once the clips are on the door, you then fit the squeegee. Finally, you can then clip the outer metal trim into place. You need to fit the squeegee first, as the outer metal trim sits over the top of it.

It's also worth putting a bit of Waxoyl (cavity protection way) on the inside if the clip where it clips on the door skin. The clips have some sharp prongs that can scratch through the paint, and could go rusty if left untreated.

Cheers,

Ian.

Thanks, Ian! Great advice. I love this board!

One last question: what's the best way to pound on the metal strips? Heel of my hand? Rubber mallet wrapped in fun fur?

Just push them on by hand. They go on a LOT easier than they came off. At the very worst, the heel of your hand should be enough.
