After taking the hine just now, i have discovered two cracks. On the second cylinder from the front there is a crack running from the intake valve seat to the cooling channel next to the cylinder. The other crack is exactly the same but on the 5th (from fron) cylinder.
the pistons look charred and dirty and a couple of them wobble very slightly if pressed (worn rings?) I think I'll be wasting my time fitting a re-con head to this engine as it is now so I'm thinking I should look in to replacing the whole engine to save time and money..
The current 1989 2.5 engine has 125000 miles on it. Maybe it is worth re-building the engine?? Does anyone have any suggestions? all will be much appreciated.

pop another engine in dude.
if in doubt, chuck it out is my motto.
you can strip it later for useful spares.
FYI some "wobble" is normal, and 125K is not high mileage for the M20 , seen 321K on an original engine, my touring had done 221K on its OEM donk before I pulled it for a high Cr replacement.

Hmm, maybe it is worth putting another head on it. I thought by me running it for so long whilst water was making its way in to the oil may have ruined the piston rings or summin. Mind you, there wasn't noticable oil in the water. just mayo in the cam breather pipe and a bit on the dip-stick.Ant wrote:pop another engine in dude.

Heads are all the same CR on the 885 casting, unless skimmed of course.
CR change is the pistons ONLY
