Just had to do this on my diesel landcruiser (will soon have to do another one on the 327i) and did some research on the net to look for traps, quick methods, etc.
Anyway...some smart guy came up with the below idea that guaranteed no fu!k ups with a tooth being one place out.
He suggested that once the timing marks are lined up you should mark the existing belt with a white fine marker at both points where it crosses the marks on the casing. Once the old belt is removed the old and new belts are laid side-by-side and white marks are transferred. New belt fitted with white marks lined up on casing points. You cannot be a tooth out using this method.
It worked a treat!!!
