When testing sensors at the ECU plug should I have to remove the 12v battery or not to get readings?

Well my readings are all over the place with battery connected. Black on something earthed, red on whatever component I'm testing

Don't push meter probes directly into the face of the ECU plug, or you will damage the buckets.
Cut some 20mm lengths of 15A fusewire or similar, and push those into the plug.

Thanks Brian that was a good heads up. I took notice of that in another thread

I wouldn't even know where to start fault finding. Can you point me in the right direction?

Blue temp, will. When engine warming up at the sensor itself it falls to 350. In the cabin it says -450 and rising (or falling if you look at it an other way)

Also can't find an earth anywhere near the ECU. Have to use the glovebox area
