Ive found rust in my filler cap very near to where you put petrol into the car.(The black area surrounding where the petrol nozzle goes into)

I know this should be dealt with but how? Will this spread and what problems could this lead to?

Thanks 8)

If you dont fix it, the cancer will spread. and the filler hose will start to leak.

Also the inner wheel arch behind the black plastic cover is prone to decay.

if you dont fix it, this is the result...

as Smithy said, you should really get this sorted sooner rather than later!
You could try and slow down the rust spreading by cleaning the area with a wire brush and treating it with something like KURUST.Dont think this will solve the problem, but it may give you a bit more time to find someone to weld it.
Good luck :)

Phosphoric acid will convert the rust (iron oxide) to iron phospate, which is water soluble and washes off, but you will need several coats of it to clear it. Jenolite is reconed to be better than Krust, I didn't think that much of the Jenolite and used phosphoric acid patio cleaner as it has more 'kick' to it. worked well but you need to paint it almost immediatly as the expose metal rusts very quickly.

Good luck killing the tinworm.
