Hi everyone,

I am really hoping that some one can help me with a few simple questions. The car is a 1990 316i :D I have not owned an e30 before so have lots to learn.

My question is about the interval for changing the timing belt. The book says evry 36K or 3 years.

The service record indicates that the belt was changed 10k miles ago, but this was 5 yrs ago. Would you bother changing the belt? Does time cause the belt to perish?

Cheers for your help with this.

Also if you have any tips for a new owner then they would be much appreciated,

Ray

Yep as Paul says change the belt they start to perish like all rubber does. Thats why you get the 36k or 3 years intervals normally says which ever comes first
