guys,

sometimes when my sport is idling, the oil light pops on below the clocks, but when i take off from sitting still or give a slight rev at all the light goes out, sometimes returning when the car returns to idling revs? this has happened a few times now since i bought it

a friend tells me the light is for oil pressure and not oil level as this was fine when dipped.

anybody got any ideas??

thanx

Low Oil level light is on your overhead check panel the oil light on your dash is indeed for low oil pressure, this can be caused by 1. low oil!!, 2. a worn out oil pump . 3. the wrong oil viscosity.

So. 1 check youd oil level, 2. Go to the oilman section for advice on what oil to use or if that dont fix it change the oil pump.

Check the wiring from the oil pressure switch where it goes around the front of the engine. Gets very hot and goes brittle. Also very close to the fan pulley.
If there's no problem here, then try a new oil pressure switch.
If that doesn't work try a new engine.

Hes talking about the, oil light on the dash, not the one on the check panel, i think the light on the dash is pressure related, double check the oil leven if not replase the sensor as suggested

If your car is of the higher mileage bracket then when its at idle its not too serious to worry about, so long as it goes out and stays out when your motoring!!
Like the chaps have said tho, check yor oil level anyway just to be safe and the pressure switch and related wiring.

I think i've read somewhere that the "oil pressure" switch is after the filter in the oils path. Therefore could be a dodgy or partialy blocked filter. Only a few quid so worth changing.
