been told can remove rocker shaft from head in situ have spare head and unless hit with hammer it wont budge. have moved all rockers so they are free but still tight am i missing something

Have you removed the small locking part at the front of the head?
It drops into grooves on the rocker shafts to prevent them turning.

+1 - after a small tap they should slide out easily
