alright lads,

last night on the way back from picking up a towbar, along the motorway, the 316 started to occasionally stutter. it would be totally fine, no loss of power or anything, then it would give a big stutter as if i came off the throttle then back on again really quickly.

this morning from cold it was doing it but worse, it stalled from tickover a few times as i was manuvering the car.

now its warmed up weve taken it on a run and its back to very rarely stuttering. as it was yesterday

initally i thought it was fuel related, but as it has little to do with revs, im beginning to think it is the afm?

im in trouble as im supposed to be towing a pug track car back tomorrow!

has anyone had this before? any ideas welcomed

thanks,
matt

the stutter is now worse when it is stone cold, but usually fine when it is slightly warm.

after a long motorway strech at constant speed and throttle it will start doing it, but, and this is the weird bit, if you lift off for a second then get back on the throttle it cures it for a little bit.

it seems to be worse around 3krpm

its a sharp stutter not a gradual loss of power which says electrics + sensors to me

i thought it was the throttle position sensor so when it was really on the motorway bad we stopped turned it off and i had a spray at it (with wd40 haha) it seemed to work fine but shortly went back to doing the same thing

does nobody have any ideas?!

If its the M10 engined model (or i guess even the M40), check the fuel relay on the passenger inner wing.

My 316 (M10) did this and eventually wouldn't start at all, it turned out to be the relay which only costs a couple of quid!
