Hello out there,
I have a 1986 316 (carb) auto 59000 from new, which I have run for the past 13 months with very few problems.
Over this time it has gradually started to hesitate when pulling away from a start and has stalled quite a few times (an auto?)
I have changed the plugs, cap, rotor arm,oil and filters, but the problem is getting worse.
It dose not use any oil, the battery is 6 months old, and returns @20mpg around town and @33-35 on a run.(I live and work in a very hilly place).
Any ideas please?
Martauto.

worn or dirty carb dude, clean out the float bowl, blow the jets through, clean the butterfly assy as best you can and try her again

they always were a tad problematic, most probs are related to the autochoke mech, you can convert to a maual setup or replace the carb with a weber conversion kit.

Weber's the way to go, have you checked the fuel filter? Try a can of carb cleaner, good stuff that. Dont get it in your eye, trust me it hurts 8O

hey what about a idle prob on a 325i Auto, it doesnt happen all the time but sometimes i would be driving and when i stop the idle fluctuates up and down up and down.. The worst is if i am in traffic and have to jump on the brakes the idle drops all the way down, till it is almost cutting out the engine, then something catches it and its back up to normal.. very strange 8O 8O

(not a constant problem, but i would like to fix it before it becomes a everyday thing)

ICV dirty, air leak somewhere or the cambelt is getting worn out are the most common causes for idle hunting, mine does it too but I cba fixing it.
