Basically my 318is has shown the inspection light and little clock these have light up in orange/red just above the service countdown lights.
I know how to reset the service lights, but im assuming the inspection light has come up for a reason the reason as to why i can only assume is the timing chain as my car has done 138k and ive heard a rumour that the chains are good for 142k??
now i have asked a local garage about doing the chain but the geezer didnt seem very confident and after leaving my details he never got back to me
like im sure all of us are on here im a bit particular about who works on my car doing as much as i can myself, but im never going to attempt this. is there anyone out there who could do this for me? sufficient funds are available on request plus tea and biscuits.

Thanks in advance.

I've no idea whether your timing chain needs replacing or not, but it's nothing to do with the inspection light!
That combined with the clock symbol, is simply telling you that the car's annual inspection is due. Just a simple twelve month timer.

Where are you??

I rebuilt my the top end of my car last year at just under 130K (2 owner very well cared for car)
I agree with Brianmoooore clock symbol is nothing to do with chain, but if you've no history to suggest chain has been changed or if engine sounds like it has "rattley tappets" on fire up then chain is worn.
Mine didn't sound too bad but still had masses of stretch and had deformed all the teeth on the sprockets so we replaced all sprockets, idlers and tensioners to avoid further issues

If you want chain changing pm me

Im in Peterborough.
Ah i see how the inspection light works now cheers Brianmooore, i wasnt sure if it was triggered by the mileage. well the timing chain is original as told by previous owner so im sure it could do with changing.
PM sent to sprocketman.
