Gutless M50 - lack of torque

Hi
I'm surprised how gutless my non-vamos M50 and I'm surprised that it's gutless until 4300rpm when the motor wakes up and goes well after that until the red line.
Is this a characteristic?
The idle speed on mine can be fast until the engine warms up then the idle is inconsistant - sometimes idling at 1200rpm, and sometimes at 750. Could this relate to the lack of low down performance and can somebody suggest a fix? Any ideas what causes this? There's no missfiring

sounds like you have an air leak into the throttle body some where

What flywheel are you using too? Using an m20 one will liven it up a bit
