Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

I just bought a large case 4.1 (american M3) LSD from Wayne (with the gorgeous LS1 powered M3 at Gaydon). It's perfect condition but doesnt have the driveshaft cups or diff oil (cos it's missing the cups).

When I go to fit it, can I just remove the cups from my diff and fit them into the new large case diff or aren't tey interchangeable?

If they dont, does anyone have any large case diff cups they'd donate?? :D

What oil do I need to fill it with? I understand you need clutchpack LSD oil. Where do I get this from and is it expensive?

Can't wait to get this fitted.. My 318is is snappy in the wet and I really fancy hooliganing it around sideways..

The large case/small case diff output flanges are not interchangeable.

Take a 2 litre container to your local BMW dealer and get some LSD oil, they only stock it in bulk but will usually sell it in small quantities if you have a container to hand.

Cheers for the response matey..

Typical of my luck, hoped they'd fit  . What ones will it then? Am I right in thinking any big case diff flanges wil fit? (Any from an E30 at least), including the open diff ones that are everywhere?

Are these a cheap and easy part to get hold of? Does anyone have any knocking around that are of no use to them?

Many thanks in advance..

Yes mate any large case e30 drive flanges will do, open or LSD.

Sorry mate none knocking around here, and to think I forgot to remove a pair off my old 3.64 diff before I binned it :x

hi people jus woundering how the cups hold into place, is there some sort of clip cause my rear passanger side cup can be pulled out nearly half, and its making a loud noise must be the oil that has come out. also where does the oil go in to the lsd

thanks

325i cab

theres a allen plug on the back of the diff. the driveshaft cups locate into to the diff via a circlip type thing.

the driveshaft cups for the large diff will fit a small diff and visa versa, but they poke out to far. they are specific for the small or large diff.
