HI there,
can anyone help me, i'm doing the cam on my m40 and when removing the dizzy cap and leads a seperate lead broke away from one of the ignition leads. This lead runs along the front of the timing covers and plugs in under the inlet manifold, think it's a 3 or 4 pin multi plug on it but looks like it is one complete piece including the lead it came from?
Do i really need this as its not on a new set of aftermarket leads?
Any help very much appreciated :?

The sensor enables the ECU to know which cylinder out of the two that are at TDC at any one time is beginning its power stroke, and which is on its inlet stroke. It's the equivalent of the cam position sensor on later engines.
Your engine will run OK without it, but it will run a little better with it, so I recommend placing an advert in parts wanted on here for a replacement lead complete, or a visit to a scrapyard.
