Couldn't budge the exhaust when trying to replace rotted fuel tank. The centre-section to rear section doesn't budge at all. So I can't remove the propshaft unless I take out the diff and slide it all the way out - but exhaust is still in the way of tank.

Tried hammer, WD40, wiggling, pulling, hitting, swearing. I think the latter had the most effect. One pipe is a male-female with about 50mm of overlap - this is stuck. Too scared to try heating it cos it's next to the fuel tank! The other join seems like a simple butt joint - this was lose.

Contemplated taking off at the manifold joint - this looked even more pig-ish to attempt so left it alone.

Or can I take it to quickfit(!) and get them to remove the joint and drive it home to finish the job off hahaha!

Car is back together, not sure I want to try doing this again. Any volouteers or cheap mechanics that want to take this on?!

Ideas welcome - anything to cheer me up from having wasted a whole day and achieving nothing. Feels like my 9-5 all over.

Heat is a good way of doing it if you have some heat resistant gloves? Take it for a run and give it a bit of stick to get the exhaust nice and hot without waving a blow-torch near a leaky fuel tank

You would need it quite high up to drop the whole exhaust in one.

Where are you located mate?

Thanks and very good point i didn't even think about that!

The car is in slough at my parents. Don't have a drive where I live :( It would be ideal to do this under a ramp, but mum doens't want one in her front garden for some reason. Just not fair IMO!
