What is involved in changing all the locks on a 2 door, non central locking E30?
Meaning, the ignition barrel, door locks, boot lock and glove box, (although I know how to do that one)
If anyone knows of a step by step guide, that would be great!
Door locks come out by sliding a retaining plate off the back of the barrel which can be got to with the door card off. (A little tricky to get to but once you see how it works it's obvious, shine a torch in there and you'll see that the retaining plate is a brass colour).
Boot lock unbolts from the inside, so assuming you can open the boot it really is just a few bolts.
Ignition barrel has a small semi-circular hole between the metal central part and the body. In position 1 you simply insert a picture nail into the hole, wiggle it (or a light tap with a hammer) and out pops the barrel. I'm sure there's a wiki on this one.
In fact, the hardest one to do is the glove box so if you can do that one you're laughing !
These are sensations as hard to forget as they are to ignore.....
Some people seem to struggle with the ignition lock, though I had no trouble when changing the locks on the touring. If you have trouble, you probably need a different 'pokey tool' - the wiki article ids very helpful in this respect IIRC. If you have the replacement barrel and key to hand, it's worth having a go with that so you can observe how the release mechanism works when not in situ - it needs a surprising mount of force.
