hi m8 if its making a noise like a 747 then its doing its job ,quiet when not needed but when the rad heats the element in the fan it stiffens up and the noise u can hear is the air rushing about ok nothing to worry about?

My Touring does this from cold - does that mean viscous coupling is shagged?

My IS does somthing similar to this. Since i put the IS engine in, it sounds like a Truck all the time. Constantly sounds really 'blowy' and loud. Dunno whats wrong.

Mine is on all the time now as I had to use a blow torch to get it off when rebuilding the head. The heat must have tightened up the clutch plate inside.
Im not too worried about it to be honest as at least it works!

Yeh, mines working, never had heating problems. Although does it not suck more power if its lock on constantly?

sometimes, if the rad fins have loads of crap in them, there is not enough air to cool the clutch inside the viscous so it stays on a lot more.
Best to clean it with degreasent and running hose, but not too powerfull where it bends the fins!
