Is it coming from the bottom or top of engine. Can you hear it at all at idle?
Could it maybe be the oil pump, which when heats up stops making a noise?

bets bet is to use a screwdriver to yer ear and listen if the noise is from top or bottom of engine, once you establish that it will be easier to diagnose the cause.

Try standing still in neutral and with the bonnet open, rev and hold the car at 3000RPM and see if that helps with the diagnosis of the noise location. Could even get a friend to hold the throttle at 3000RPM while you put you ear in various locations round the engine. BE DAMN CAREFUL OF THE FAN!!! especially if it has no cover.

mine made the same noise, then i put my other alternator on and it stopped, until today! it started again, the only other thing it could be is a broken water pump, try running your car with the alternator belt off,if the noise stops you know its either the alternator or water pump,as the same belt runs both!

It is not that hard, but don't bother cleaning it, just replace. They are so cheap anyway! It will mean having to take off the valve cover and from there just undoing the thread that holds the bar in place on either side of the head. Look for other damage to the valves, cam and tappets as a failing oil spray bar usually means oil starvation at the head!TW166Y wrote:i think you have hit the nail on the head there son, i really think its the oil bar myself but i just wanted to see if anyone could give me a diagnostic first, anyone know if they are easy or hard to change/clean??jonbuoy wrote:Sounds like your oil spray bar, either clean it or replace it.
