Has anyone fitted or knows anything about a K&N Induction Kit - Is it worth it? Will it add anything worthwhile? Thanks

quite easy to fit a little bit fiddly, you have to strip your air box and make the hole in the plastic cover behind the head light bigger to get the cold air hose through, plus open up the grill around the head light to get more air in

you will bedown on poer and all the k&n does is mak noise and you wont hear that over the m20 engine

better off with a replacement panel filter in the standard airbox

Yep, I agree with Richy325iTouring.

I fitted a K&N cone filter - looks good - but more noise, and didn;t seem as torquey.

Also, and this just might be me imagining things, but it didn't idle as well either. Seemed to pulse a bit on idle.

I have since re-fitted standard air box.

i was thinking of making a cold air feed. But not the usual through the headlight or grill, but under the car. Modding the brake ducts into two parts, leaving air going to the brakes, but also up to the engine bay. Having two ducts from the front spoiler area would certainly bring in some air. Might experiement one time soon

If you look though there isn't enough room to run a decent cold feed from the foglight/brake duct as it would have to bend round (but probably the only route that would work!). I looked at the grille but again the route is blocked and would have to be thin.

K&N is shit. Get a bigger one and shield it well.

The K&N can not flow enough air. Mine used to suck inwards and killed top end revs, I put a large stainless one on and my problems were cured.

If you cant be arsed making a good heat shield I recommend using the panel filter

i say stock box aswell. Cone is unhealthy it sucks in hot air from the engine. I was thinking of experimenting with a stock box and a K&N Pan filter thou.

Are you going MAF soon? (I am!!) If so you will need a nice big cone filter.

Stock box with K & N Panel has always worked for me.

Completely off topic but from the pic in the thread, I gotta admit I think Naylor04's car is one hell of a tough-looking E30. Credit to you - it's well 'ard!

yeah the panel filter feels better compare to the stock element, car feels smoother and not so lazy. dont expect much horsepower gain, but it does help your car to breath better.

thats right - the replacement element and the standard box are the best results....had the filter on its own drinking petrol like there was no tomo...

sounds beautifull just on the cone filter at around 4000rpm, used to get something to vibrate in the cockpit....not bad for aM40...

Has anybody done a dyno run for comparison? Not too worried about everyday drivability as it'll be on a track car.

Cheers

check out this link, its from the other forum that i am in, the guy has done a dyno (before and after) for his e30, there are some figures for comparison, just scroll to the bottom of the page for the results. he is using a carbon fibre cold air intake, which doesnt require a heat shield. He has also done a MAF conversion.

enjoy!
