I purchased two spare front wings, not so long ago.
I need to remove paint , surface rust and prime.

What process is the correct one, and is it best to leave to the professionals?.

Thanks in advance

Depending on the state of the original paint, you could get away with giving the original paint a good rub down so that you have a good key for the new paint, or if there is surface rust on the wings you would be better to rub down to bare metal, treat the rust and give it a good coat of etch primer in preparation for top coats. There are good cleaning discs from 3M that are good for removing paint and surface rust leaving a good clean metal surface. Probably the best way. You could use paint stripper, but this stuff can be nasty to handle and wont sort out the rust.

Thanks Kevin,

The wings a real patchwork with paint in places, but mostly bare metal with surface rust.
The insides show the worst of the rust with waxoil etc.

Would like them back to bare metal

Get them acid dipped, much more productive than sandpaper and will only cost about a tenner :)
