Yeah, Ive got a Cobra Cat1 - does the job for me as well :thumb:

Dont think theres much in the way of ad-ons for it (like remote start etc), but it closes my windows when I arm it, which is all I wanted - Im easily pleased.
I think it will do the sunroof as well if I could be bothered to sort it out.

I've got a Toad Ai606. Sadly, it looks more complicated to wire up than the new ECU for the car was :(

Toad A600i on mine, seems to do the biz, just don't leave it running with the keys in and doors shut as the anti-hijack program locks the doors on you after 45 seconds!

It has been on the car for 4 years now and hasn't failed.

If you want remote start etc then you need Clifford.

You want the alarm installed by the company you buy it from anyhow otherwise you won't get the certificate of installation the insurers need to see.

I have used a firm called RS Audio for two Cat 1. alarms so far. They travel to your home or office. I am in London and they are based in Birmingham. Both times they were efficient, tidy with my car and pleasant.

They are VSIB approved and my Clifford alarms have come with lifetime warranties. I've had no problems so far.

They can be contacted on www.rsaudio.co.uk/home.html

BTW, most insurers don't need to see the actual certificate except in the event of a claim. That said, I always copy mine and send one in that way, if there is a claim it speeds up the process.

Also, when I was getting ins. quotes and with my current insurer, they said to me that for me it didn't matter if it was Cat. 1 or 2 as my premium will be the same. I still went for Cat. 1 as I want the peace of mind.

Over and out.

If insurance approval is vital, then stop reading now (lol) - I bought a 'Cheetah' alarm off Ebay for Ԛ£45 + Ԛ£10 postage. This has remote locking, ultrasonic cabin sensors, a shock sensor (triggers if car rocked or attempted to tow away), plus it has two auxiliary relay drivers, which I think could provide 'total closure' (shuts the windows/sunroof when c/locking activated) - I haven't wired these extras up yet. system installed in 1/2 day with my bro., has been in for 4 months now and no problems, except that because it has lots of flashing blue/red led's when in operation, it flattened m y battery when i was on holiday for 10 days!) The flashing lights are on the ultrasonic sensor, which i like cos I think the more flashing lights there are, the more likely the thieving sh*ts will leave it alone and go somewhere else. PM me for more info if interested

My Cobra was Ԛ£325 with certified fitting from a local audio/security place. That was about 3 years ago, so prices may have changed now.

A mate of mine works for a car security firm and really rates Toad alarms (they are changing there name from Toad to Sterling security) and advises to steer well clear of Clifford, he's had more trouble with Cliffords than all the others put together.

As he says Clifford aren't worth a :wan:

I've got a Toad cat2 powerkey imobiliser (amongst other devices that will remain unnamed  ), it works by having a transponder tag on your keyfob. No buttons to press or touch keys to fiddle with, justget in the car and start it as normal. You can get these on ebay for Ԛ£50 or so.

Cheers,

we had alot of people say that about the cliffords the are shite toads are great but if the go wrong they just die
had a few when i did some work for Gap security
but overall the best one at the mo is ther Viper ( some or another it has everything you want
and the best thing its half the price of a clifford
but the fitting rated have gone up
Some old cobra alarms are now not staring to be CAT 1 as the alarm list is changing all the time new ones on the list and ones off
So best thing to stick with at the mo is A toad becuse they are in the middle of the list and they will be round for a good while yet
