i have an 89 325i sport needing a new air flow meter. the problem being getting one. BMW, Otto and another motor factors are all giving me this story -
Bosch factory reconditioned units were available for Ԛ┚¬350+vat, they are out of stock in the german factory and will be indefinately unavailable. new units are available Ԛ┚¬800+vat!
this effectively leaves me in a very difficult situation, pay Ԛ┚¬1000 for one (ridiculous) or sell the car.
Does anyone know any better about this situation in bosch or know of any company who reconditions them?? Please help, as i really don't want to sell her

mate, try www.motorworks.co.uk. they break BMW's and specialise in older models. the will probably have one for your 325i and wont charge you a fortune. I use them ALL the time and they are very handy people to know! good luck

shame Ant drop kicked his old one, but it did make me laugh so thats ok.
You really want to risk buying a brand new one, when it maybe something else thats causing the problem. It will be non-refundable as its an electrical item. If i were you, i would definatly try another second hand one, most people only want 15 nicker for them.

An I find it surprising that 2 second hand ones were nackered too. Theres not a lot to go wrong in them , and when they do it tends to be a flat spot caused by corroded connection rails in the AFM. Are you sure there is not another problem? Do you know anyone else with a 325? If you do stick one of your AFM's on their car to see if the afm is working then you'll know if you have another problem. What symptoms is the car giving? How do you know it's the Afm?
Lots of questions! God sorry if that sounds bossy

in my experience afms very rarely malfunction. sometimes the flap might bind because there's cr@p in there, or a flat spot as widge says. but it ain't some complicated piece of equipment.
have you tested your wiring loom? that was the problem on my 3.5 engine, and it was an AFM-ecu wire that was broken
don't know where you live or what parts availability is like there, but in britain a second hand unit is a sensible way to solve the problem and very likely to work perfectly, not a waste of time or of money.
