Opinion please .... Toyo versus Dunlop versus Nankang
Moderator: martauto
Hi there ...Before buying new boots for the 15" BBS was wondering what zoners thoughts and experiences were with the above tyres.
Was looking at Dunlop SP Sport 9000 , Toyo Proxes T1-R and Nankang NS-1 all in 205/55 size.
Thanks G

From that lot I'd go for the Toyo
If you can stretch to it though get some Goodyear eagle F1s

now ive always been a toyo fan/./... i always had t1s however i recently bought some t1r and have not yet been happy
there appears to be a lot of flex even at high pressure like 37psi this may just be cos they havent bed in yet however... the wet weather performance is however astonishing!!!! i can floor my car in 1st gear and it doesnt spin at all!!!! even woith 220lbft torque!!
its feeling unstable in the dry..... not sliding.... just feelign wobbly... will have to bed them in more i think

outta that lot i'd get the Dunlops imo
Toyo's not sure about yet - only driven them twice so far
Nankangs are actually pretty good in the dry..... in the wet/slippery conditions however they leave alot to be desired. Nice and cheap tho
bit of a weird set to compare really - one from budget, one from mid range and the other is high end

Funny you should say that ... this internet site over here has them and they are priced within Ԛ£13 of each other. Dunlop lists at Ԛ£93 - sells 'em for Ԛ£52, Toyo lists at Ԛ£56 - sells 'em for Ԛ£54 and the Nankangs are just Ԛ£39 - no discount . So looking at that the Dunlops are the best value and actually have an overall rating close to the Goodyear Eagle F1.

Well I have Nankang all round on 17's and its like driving on rails imo, Ive just come home in pouring rain and as usual cornered like car and tarmac are connected. The tyres were recommended to me as semi racing quality, I'd never heard of them before and for the price I'm made up with 'em tbh.
So it surprises me some of you guys dont rate them.

I think the contis and things like michelin energy have something like sillica compound for a lower rolling resistance but every one i've seen or had seems to wear quite quick. I'd says they're fine as oem on an astra or something but there's much better to be had.johnono wrote:whats the score on continentals? i had em before and they dont last long
personally I like the lower end yokos. cheap good wet and dry performance and don't break the bank (cos no matter what I'm gonna get through 'em quick)
however speaking to touringdaddy he reckons the yokos are pretty shite in the wet compared to some of the higher end stuff. I can't say cos I've never had anything more up market than the lower end yokos (s306, a011) I've yet to really test the a011 but the s306 I was very happy with.
personally I'm fan of topgear.co.uk for my tyres. used them a couple of times.
E46 M3 CSL but dreaming of another E30.
Mine has Dunlops on the front and they seem ok. The back end has loads less grip.
Ive also had Toyos on my last two cars and they were excellent.
Nangkangs are pure sh**e. Every single person I know who has had them said they were dangerous.
As said above their only real use is for drifting. My friends back in Ireland buy them when they go for "practicing sessions" lol.

Im running nankangs all round lol, maybe thats why i get constant understeer and front wheel sliding in the wet, they seem to be a bit shit. Best set up would be nangcraps on the rear, and some F1's or similar up front!

									1986 Chevrolet Corvette. 330ftlb torque....V8s rule!
lol. I got some optima mega on the front atm (soon moving to the back) absolute shite! understeer is crazy even if not pushing it. even in the dry they're shite. Sam, I'd get something half decent up front. oversteer you be dealt with a bit easier than understeer and it's far more fun. imho understeer in a rwd is alot more dangerours than fwd.SwirlyE30 wrote:Im running nankangs all round lol, maybe thats why i get constant understeer and front wheel sliding in the wet, they seem to be a bit sh*t. As long as they dont overheat, I head of someone driving with these on the ring and within 2 laps the rubber had 'chunked'320Touring wrote:barum are conti's "budget" brand-driven tehm a few times and for the money they are very good-tidy in the dry and surefooted in the wetgcorky wrote:anyone heard of barum,no1 autocar magazine,205,50,15 at 39 each to go on my bbs-will let you know cos im gonna gett em
