sloppy gearstick

Need technical Q/A then you're in the right place

im sure most people have had experience of this .gear stick sloppy.had a quick look from inside car and the rear bush/rod joint ok -is it the front one that goes -is it hard to do?89 touring. :cry:

look in the tech section for the short shifter retrofit guide it tells you how to sort the sloppyness but you may as well do the shortshift while ya at it mate it on my todo list definatly

It's the bush in the bit on the end of the selector rod that wears the most.
Its been modified, so you,ll need the whole bit that fits on the selector shaft, and the linkage rod.
Change the little selectorshaft oil seal while you'r at it as well.

nah no fogs or wheels yet cos ive booked it in for a bit of paintwork!lots to do -wants lowering,new diff,got a shortshift kit,silver leather etc etc runs great for now soughted cooling out!i am getting exited about the car now!!!!i am hooked on this car.had the car a month -cost 100 quid but now my shed is full and ive spent..........is our lass lookin ?no err a lot,but will be worth it !

Brian, I am also looking to sort out some sloppiness but am not clear which bushes you think wear the most. Do you mean the joint at the base of the gear lever, or the joint at the gearbox end? The ones at the end of the gear lever seem easy enough to change, but the gearbox end is a hassle isn't it - exhaust + driveshaft down etc. no?
