I have a 325i Hartge 26 Auto E30 Touring. Does anyone know if you check the auto gearbox oil with the car in "drive" or in "Neutral" and whether you check the oil level with the car/gearbox warmed or cold ? ps Does anyone else own a E30 Hartge 26 Touring. I have been told mine is one of only 3 ever made ?

Yes , I bought Kevin's off him on Wednesday night. Do you know the other two owners as well ?
I have just joined the BMWCC as well.
How do you attach a picture to your profile on this Forum ?

Welcome to the madhouse
Since your other queries have been answered, I'll answer about the gearbox.
Ideally, you want to go for a short, calm drive, say a few miles, so that the ATF is warmed up and flowing well.
Then park up the car on a flat surface, and keep the gear on N(eutral), with the engine idling.
That is the correct way of checking auto gearbox fluid level. The colour should be nice, red/cherry, and it should not smell horrible.
Check the service history/reciepts to see when was it changed.
If it is 2 years or more, or if it looks browny/grey, and/or it smells awful, then try and get it changed. And while you're at it, change the gearbox filter as well.
Hope this helps....
