re-fitting rear quarter window trim

i have a 2 door, 318i with fixed rear windows. removed all my window trim to repaint this weekend, all done and looking good, but i can't get the rear quarter window surrounds back on, needs 2 be pushed back into a grove in the rubber, is there a special method, tried 4 ages and gettin frustrated now! ha! it's the section which is all one piece around the window and is bolted on inside of b pillar behind the seatbelt. any help would be great
