First and foremost, soor if it seems as if I only come on here for tech help, I'm always on here but don't post alot..
Anyways..
My 1990 320i cab is juddering when I pull off in first or when I reverse, it's bloody embarassing .. However if I pull off in second it goes ok, even when I give it more revs in first it calms down but still judders..
Any ideas, as I've only had this car for under three weeks and all i'm getting is problems so far, and the car was mint..
Many thanks in advance!

either ur 1st gear is chipped, very unlikely tho.
if not some sort of clucth problem, maybe release bearing damaged or pressure plate worn? they would be the likely options altho im sure other users on here have far more knowledge about transmissions that i do

How hard is it having the gearbox out on an e30, and how hard is it to change the clutch etc?
I'm not a bad diy mechanic but still learning...

Could be oil contamination of clutch, broken clutch bits or worn clutch, but check the condition of the rubber guibo on the gearbox output flange, the propshaft centre bearing mount, or even the gearbox rubber mounts before you get to involved.

Won't be the gearbox seals causing oil on the clutch plate, it'll be the engine rear crank seal.
This is a gearbox out job,or engine and gearbox complete. You'll have to take the gearbox off to change the clutch plate anyway.
Not particularly difficult, but you'll be lifting around some hefty lumps of metal, and of course, there are loads of "while you're in there" jobs.

I remember on the old E30zone someone removing the gearbox on their driveway. A trolley jack, axle stands and there was something about a skateboard, I would guess for moving box around on

I changed a 325 gearbox a few years ago (pre four post ramp days!) on axle stands and a trolley jack. Wasn't to bad.
Worst thing was all the crap dropping on you all the time.(Keep mouth closed)

I ve replace my gearbox on my car on axle stands! on a drive way!
i found the most difficuly part was lifting the gearbox back up, as you couldn't put it on a jack and roll it under the car as it wouldn't fit! Balancing a gearbox onto a jack undernearth a car is easer said than done!
I ended up using some bit of wood as leavers, some bricks and the jack... worked in the end after lots of swearing.
