Check your connections where they run into the door frame pillar (drivers side to start off with ), sometimes they need a clean , black plastic plug multipin connection> Could be the relay which is situated behind the drivers side footwell speakerr emove speaker and right at the bottom there's a phillips screw which you undo to remove the unit They can be tested but not sure of the link to get you to that info or its a simple remove and plug in replacement Not sure of cost from main dealer or buy 2nd hand from here Cheers Keith

i wondered what that relay holder was. my central locking doesn't work either, and there's no relay in the holder... What type of relay would it be?

It's not a relay as such. It's an electronic control unit, although it has a couple of relays in it.blakep82 wrote:i wondered what that relay holder was. my central locking doesn't work either, and there's no relay in the holder... What type of relay would it be?
Don't confuse it's connector with the usually empty socket for an interior light delay module, which is nearby.

Don't do random messing around - you'll cause more problems than you solve.carl325i wrote:I'll av alook in the am and try to resolve the prob cheers Carl.
First step is to remove the locking ECU from its habitat in the sill. as described above, and test, with a 12V 5W or 10W lamp, whether there is power between the red/black wire on the ECU and the car body.

can the light delay be used by fitting the relay? i've seen the control box down there too actually, i'll check it out tooBrianmoooore wrote:It's not a relay as such. Light delay can be used by fitting the module and a bit of nearby wire swapping.
Modules are fairly rare in E30s, but same module was used in some 5 and 7 series of a similar age.

All you needed to do was find two seperate red/black wires going to the driver's door pillar socket, cut them both off, and join them together.
