taking a head off

I don't know if it's necessary but I always crack the head bolts off in the reverse sequence to tightening.
Another thing I do when it's time to put the head back on is to set the block to TDC 1 then wind it back about 1/8 of a turn, then fit the head, with the pistons down the bores you can turn the cam to it's timing mark and then time the block to it's mark (these engines are clearly marked), fit the belt then re-check, turn it over by hand a few times then re-check, then check the tension and timing again.
