Hi guys need some fairly urgent advice please:
I currently have an 87 jetronic car which I was going to prep to race in the miltek (basically no engine mods allowed).
Would I be better to get a motronic car to race or not? what is the real difference?
Does anyone have torque curves for both??
All this bearing in mind all the other cars are motronic in the series.
Thanks
Jimmy
PLEASE help- Jetronic or motronic

Motronic cars are more tuneable because they have more sensors and thus more variables to adjust. The Jetronic can only be mapped for fuelling I believe. Not a very technical answer I know! I know you're not supposed to have any modifications in this series but does that include remapping? If you can remap then you will be at a disadvantage against Motronic engines.

No remapping is not allowed. After getting some advice from Dave Keal I have decided to stick with it- all I really need to do is change the diff and I wont be mucg different to the others think couple bhp.
Does the jetronic and motronic refer to the ECU??

if you service it well and treat it right it'll prob be pushing out very close to 171bhp

Motronic refers to the whole engine management system with the ECU as its nerve centre. The sensors give the information and the map in the ECU controls all the engines functions - fuel intake, air intake, timing, etc relative to temp and conditions, etc.
The older engines did indeed have a higher compression ratio and there are many who would argue that they were faster than a standard Motronic one.
Good luck with the racing. Love doing track days but have never raced. Probably getting too old for that now!!

no idea on the torque curve comparisons mate-never run the 2 side by side.JimmyC wrote:I like the sound of thatits only got 94k on the clock and is a sweet runner.

is it a 323? if so....keep the l jet....timing can be advanced via the distributor....its good
