not a 100% way of telling
i can get both wheels to spin andsometimes both spinning while donuting but then one will just spin
jack the car up and see whats on the tag

jack the car up with BOTH rear wheels of the ground. Spin one wheel. If the other one rotates in the SAME direction --> LSD!

iS' are a bit rare with a genuine 4.10 lsd. If you've got one you're a lucky bugger.
Another way to tell is go to BMW and get an original spec list for your car with the last 7 digits of the VIN (should be EE4**** for an iS i think). Although if it's a retro fit that obviously wouldn't help.

just use your bmw jack mate in the boot, jack one side up. With the handbrake off try and spin the wheel if it won't move slipper baby
