my 1994 318 tourer with 127 k on clock, has a bit of a whine , its topped up with fluid ,anyone recommend any product to reduce the whine from it apart from getting a new bearing in the diff.

I was thinking of taking the plate off and packing full of some sort of grease.

They will go on for years with a whining diff.
The diff on my wife's 325 touring had been whining for about four years, untill two weeks ago, when the whine suddenly changed to a much rougher noise.
Changed it pronto, but haven't opened up the old one yet to see what had happened

whining diff usually caused my incorrect preload or backlash, or chipped teeth. garages have to adjust it, unless its sealed for life

i just get the wife whining in the back, diff would be a much easier problem to resolve.
